This morning I had my last contracts final ever-so now I am back at the library beginning to study for property, who's final I take this coming thursday. But no one cares about what is going on in my boring life. I don't even care about whats going on in my boring life. IN FACT....my life is going to pretty boring for the next 2 years, so I am going to quit rambling about it. Instead, I will divulge my random thoughts about stuff going on that interests me.
Today I thought it was only fitting to discuss the death of Osama Bin Laden. In an effort not to polarize my MANY readers (hahaha) I will say that these thoughts are only MY opinions...no one else's.
Does anyone find it interesting that the one thing that brings America together is the death of another? Now before everyone says, YOU ARE UN-AMERICAN, I will be the first to say how happy I am that he was finally dead and not taking up space on this earth. BUT it does say a lot about our culture in America that the one thing we can agree on is that we are all glad bad guy bit the dust. I was in 8th grade when Al Quieda attacked the WTC's, hijacked planes, and slammed one into the Pentagon. What I don't think I realized at the time was how much it would change my shape of the world I live in. It is natural to me to fly in airports with heightened security. I HARDLY remember a time when you can just stroll in. There have always been heightened warning of terrorist threat attacks, and it has always been a fear of americans my age. General Patreus (sp<--) was my graduation speaker at my beloved Texas A&M (a school who's sole purpose not so long ago was to prep young men for combat). These kinds of feelings and sentiment are commonplace for me.
As someone who has traveled all over the world, I have found that we as humans (no matter our country, upbringing, etc.-aren't too different). We all want the same things. Live in peace, have love in our lives, and not have to worry about where our next meal comes from. These are simple aims.
Last summer while in Greece, I taught 3 boys from Afghanistan how to swim. There in the ocean off the coast of Athens, I approached some boys who were having a hard time swimming. As a former lifeguard, it freaked me out that they looked to be struggling. In broken english, we talked about life, I asked them about how growing up in Afghanistan was, and what they wanted in the future. Wouldn't you know it....same thing as me! They wanted peace, they wanted to live a happy life, and they wanted to feel safe.
I wont talk about the many ignorant comments I saw on facebook last night. How they made me feel, or my opinion about those who wrote them. I feel like it is our responsibility as Americans to educate ourselves about the world. Having said this-we are each entitled to our own opinion. No matter our politics and many different opinions, it is my hope that we as a nation will be able to come together more often. Realistic? No. This is America after all.
My view is best explained by a quote I try to live by. "It is better to be thought a fool then to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"! This isn't a mantra that came easily. There have been dozens of times that I have said something in anger or ignorance and wished I hadn't.
Anyway, I congratulate the current administration who finally brought this evil man to justice, I commend the former administration for beginning a search and a fight that I haven't always agreed with, but stuck to it. In the end, I feel like the world is a better place without BLaden-whether I agree with the war or not.
Regardless-the brave men and women who believe enough in our country to defend it so I can sit in this moldy old law library and rant about how I feel about stuff are never far from my thoughts. They are the heroes here, and they deserve the credit.
I have a sorority sister who is married to a Lt. who was recently seriously injured in Afghanistan. Take a minute to look at his website and see the amazing kinds of people we have fighting for us every single day.

Does this post have a point? Now that I think about it...not really. Oh well.
