30 Day Blog Challenge, Day 2

Favorite Movie:

This is an easy one. Over the holidays, my Mom, Daniel, his parents, and I went to see "The King's Speech". This is now my absolute favorite movie!

The King's Speech tells the story of King George the Sixth, who took over the throne when his brother abdicated the throne because he was in love with Wallis Simpson, an American socialite. The Church of England wouldn't permit the King to marry a twice divorced commoner. Because of this, The Duke of York (George VI), had to take the throne.

The really neat story is that King George the VI had a severe lisp that rendered him unable to speak publicly. It was a huge embarrassment for him and his family, and the whole movie centers around he and his wife's quest to fix this problem. Lionel Louge, a speech therapist from Australia, becomes his best friend throughout the process.

As someone who has been to London, it was so neat to be able to see all the famous and royal places depicted in a historical movie. King George the Sixth was actually Queen Elizabeth's (the current queen) father. It was really cool to see her as a child.

Check it out!

Colin Firth deservingly won a Golden Globe last night for for his portrayal. I was going to be so mad if he didn't win.

Go see the movie!
