Day 4

Favorite Book.

As an avid reader my entire life, you would think Law School would be super fun. After all-all we do is read all day long and all night long. WRONG. In Law School, you don't read anything you want. Don't get me wrong, sometimes, the material is stimulating and interesting, but there is nothing like spending a rainy day in bed with your book. (In my case now, a Kindle-which Daniel got me for Christmas!)

I think when I was in high school, and then again when I re-read it in college, "The Rainmaker" was a story that I wanted to be able to identify with.

This book is about a young lawyer, in his final year of law school-up to his eyes in debt and out of a job, that wins a million dollar case against a large insurance company. Something about this guy's personality and drive made me want to be just like him. Now this story, albeit fictional, is pretty spot-on when it comes to the realities of a legal career. Not glamourous, not pretty, no guarantee that it will pay off. This however, is a good story about a young lawyer that cares about the people he is trying hard to represent.

I have read every book John Grisham has written. Usually, I toss them out or sell them back to Half Price Books. For some reason, I have hung on to this book as a reminder of why I am going to Law School. I even read it in the days before I started. Sometimes, when I wonder what the hell I'm doing, I re-read all or parts of that book to motivate me.

Now, the story does't have too happy of an ending. The lawyer ends up walking away from the law after he wins this big case-but that isn't the point that I focus on when I read this book. It really resonates with me.
