The Cliffs of Moher

So today we woke up at 5am to catch a tram to a train station to take us out to the cliffs of Moher. (We just got back and its 10:30pm) These cliffs are on the West coast of Ireland and we were told they were the most spectacular thing we would ever see. (Second most popular attraction in Ireland, strangely enough after the Guiness factory, which we fully plan to investigate on our first free day tomorrow )After about a three hour train ride, we made our way to our tour bus and began our trip to the coast. Our tour guide didn't talk to much-but the countryside was beautiful and lush, and we saw many goats and cows and sheep along the way.

Once we got to the cliffs of Moher, we were given MULTIPLE ominous warnings about getting too close to the edge of the cliffs. These cliffs line 5 kilometers of the southwestern coast of Ireland, and are 640 feet high. A plunge from these cliffs would mean instant death. Apparently, some people have had some bad luck with these cliffs because there are memorials all around the entrance to "those that have lost their lives on the Cliffs of Moher"

Surely, if you know me, you know that I couldn't get a good view from the viewing station, so Elise, Alex, and I threw caution to the wind and crossed the DANGER signs (along with about 100 other people) and scaled the edges of the cliffs to get some great pics. (MOM, dont be mad). It was terrifying and exhilarating, but as you will see with my pictures, completely worth it. These cliffs have drawn crowds since the 1600's, and the view was unlike anything I had EVER seen before, and I am SO glad I got to experience it. I was upset because a pregnant lady was walking along the edges with us...I felt that she wasn't being to responsible.

Anyway, after we visited these beautiful cliffs, we participated in the anti-climatic experience of going into some famous cave. (I forget the name but I have it written down somewhere) It is the most famous cave in Ireland, but unfortunately, my family and I experienced Carlsbad Caverns when I was young-and this little rinky dink cave didn't compare. However, I am in Ireland and it was amazing.

After a long trip back to our hostel, I have come to blog and upload some pictures. I hope everyone gets to see them, but they honestly don't do these cliffs justice. The day was a little foggy but the visibility was great. There are the rare Puffin birds, these large black crows, and many fish and sharks you are supposedly able to see. None of these were of any interest to me however, because I was too concerned about plummeting to my death. (if I can ever get my mom over her fear of heights, she would LOVE to come here with me someday, because of all the neat birds)

Hope everyone is doing well-miss you all!

Here is my link to the photos from today if they ever load!...check them out tomorrow when I try to upload them again.
